My quest for a creative Father’s Day gift

Posted on: June 20, 2010

I will be spending a majority of Father’s Day folding and selling underwear at Underthings in Lincoln Park.  Stop by and say hi! We have a good sale going on.  50% off!  Speaking of Father’s Day, I feel horrible that my dad always does such nice and creative things for me, continues to come to my athletic events, pay for my college education, food, groceries, and many other things and all I get him every year (and for his birthday) is a shirt.  He has to have about 500 of the same shirts from my sister, my mom, and I.  I tried to get him something creative for Father’s Day this year.  I thought I did a good job for his birthday in May. I got him an Adidas shirt and matching work out shorts.  I haven’t seen the shorts yet, but he did wear the shirt.  However, I intended it to be more of a, “Hey dad, remember when you said you were going to run on the treadmill every day?” kind of gift and he wore the shirt to a family party. Anyway, I went to Campus Colors looking for a Cardinals shirt for him.  The only one I found was red and not in a big enough size.  They had a Cardinals hat, again red and not big enough. Plus, I haven’t seen my dad wear a hat in a very long time.  Probably not since he was in the Viper Club of America.  So I moved on to Notre Dame stuff, but he probably already had the complete collection in there since he refuses to wear anything green, anything that has the Irish man with his fists out, or anything that says Irish.  He is a very picky individual.  He also will not wear anything that says “DePaul Dad” even though his youngest daughter (me) is entering her senior year of college at such a lovely institution. I settled on more work out/sleep shorts that are dark blue with an ever so unnoticeable DePaul logo on the left leg.  Happy Father’s Day, dad!
