I’ve been cleaning up my computer trying to clear space for my new job and I have come across some very interesting things! I used to write a lot. I miss it. This is from when I went to New York with my mom. Here is the picture I mention at the end:

If I could just stay here

In Times Square where every moment that passes is captured by the flash from a visitor’s camera

Where people from all over the world come to see some of America’s greatest treasures and enjoy a cup of coffee in Central Park

Where the Statue of Liberty is just around the corner and America’s beginning lies

Where the streets come alive

With music and dancing and lights

If I could just stay here

In a place where I’m just another new face

Where no one knows me or where I’ve been

And on the crowded streets, I simply blend in

The smell of fried food and hotdogs everywhere

Taxi cab traffic and car horns that blare

If I could just stay here

I wouldn’t have to go home and face my fears

Of the future, of my past, of a once in a lifetime love that did not last

Of my job, internship, and extra class

Of my dad getting older as his brown hair fades to grey

While his life and everything he’s loved continues to slip away

Of my mom getting worse and succumbing to her disease

That she’s worked so hard to fight and has literally brought her to her knees

Of the cancer and illness that eats away at my grandfather each day

And the dwindling strength left in my grandmother as she closes her eyes and prays

If I could just stay here

The buzz of the city continuing around me

Songs from Broadway that spill out onto the street

Signs, stores, ads, souvenir stands

People that rush by, cell phone in hand

If I could just stay here

I would not have to face the world alone

I could stand beneath the Broadway street sign, posing for a picture with my hand on my hip, a smile on my face

Forever frozen in time and place.
